  • How many beavers is too many beavers?

    Yes, you read that right. Reintroduction of beavers into the UK wilderness is a cause I’m heavily backing. But what would actually happen if we blink and, oopsy daisy, there’s too many?

    I saw one once in the Lake District (they’re not actually supposed to be there). Fucker was about a 1m long - I thought ‘twould be the size of a large loaf of bread. Very calm looking creature, composed if you will.

    Feb’s birds are out, free, soaring, mindful, present.

    New additions that will be starting to be about in Feb include:

    Wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe): Wheatears undertake one of the longest migrations of any small bird, traveling from sub-Saharan Africa to Europe.

    Sand Martin (Riparia riparia): Sand Martins often return to the same nesting sites each year, excavating tunnels in sandy banks.
